Casablanca: 24 individuals were arrested for obstructing road traffic on the Casablanca urban highway following unauthorized protests on September 28, 2025. This disruption brought traffic to a standstill, affecting road users and their freedom of movement.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the adults involved were taken into custody, while minors were detained pending investigation, in compliance with legal procedures. Law enforcement’s attempts to persuade the protesters to vacate the road were ignored, necessitating intervention by the judicial police to document the incidents, as explained by the first deputy public prosecutor at the Casablanca Court of Appeal.
The acts under investigation, involving obstruction and hindrance to traffic, are criminalized and punishable by law, unrelated to peaceful protest activities. Following the investigation, the suspects, with legal representation, were presented to the public prosecutor’s office. A request has been made to investigate 18 adults for allegedly obstructing and blocking traffic, and in some cases, drug use, with a recommendation for imprisonment.
The six minors involved were referred to the juvenile court judge. The public prosecutor’s office emphasized its commitment to upholding legal freedoms while taking decisive action against legal violations infringing on citizens’ rights.
