DGSN Denies Murder Allegations After Unidentified Sub-Saharan Body Found in Sal©

Sal©: The Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) has formally denied allegations reported by some Senegalese websites and social media accounts claiming that a Senegalese national was fatally stabbed in Morocco following the final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the DGSN stated that, following the dissemination of this content, the National Security services conducted thorough investigations and searches, which ruled out crime of intentional murder or assault and battery resulting in the death of a Senegalese citizen, according to the modus operandi described.

The same source specified that the only incident recorded at this stage concerns the discovery in Sal© of the lifeless body of an unidentified person from sub-Saharan Africa. The body, which gave off a strong smell of alcohol, showed no apparent signs of violence or resistance, except for slight bite marks, which, based on the findings, were attributed to stray dogs at the scene.

Relevant local security services launched a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to identify the victim. At this stage, the fingerprints at the scene have not matched any data in the National Laboratory of Scientific and Technical Police’s databases, the statement says.

In addition, coordination is underway with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) and the Senegalese security services to carry out the necessary checks to identify the deceased.

As part of the ongoing investigation, security services also investigated the individual appearing on the identity documents circulated by certain Senegalese accounts and presented as the alleged victim, due to physical similarities with the body discovered.

It was revealed that this person was a Senegalese national with a residence permit in Morocco. However, field checks established that he did not reside at the given address, which led to further investigations, supported by technical expertise, in order to accurately identify the person concerned.

While reaffirming that no intentional homicide or assault leading to death occurred-contrary to claims reported by some publications-the DGSN stresses that, to date, the only established fact is the discovery of a body without identification documents, emitting an odor of alcohol and bearing no signs of violence or stab wounds.

The case is currently under judicial investigation to identify the victim and determine the exact circumstances and causes of death. The body has been made available for a medical autopsy to determine the actual cause of death, the statement concludes.
