El Guergarat: Police Foil International Drug Trafficking Attempt, Seize over 362 kg of CocainePM Shtayyeh briefs Greek Consul-General on ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestinian people

A joint security operation involving national police and customs at the El Guergarat border post, south of the town of Dakhla, helped, on Monday, to foil an attempt to smuggle a large international shipment of hard drugs, and led to the seizure of 362 kg and 950 grams of cocaine destined for Morocco from abroad.

Control and careful search operations led to the discovery of this cargo of hard drugs in the form of 16 bales carefully concealed in the cabin and body of an international goods transport truck registered in Morocco, immediately after arriving at the El Guergarat border post from a sub-Saharan African country, said a statement by the national police (DGSN), reporting the arrest of the truck driver and his assistant.

The suspects, two Moroccan citizens aged 40 and 41, were subjected to a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office, with a view to determining the local and international ramifications of this criminal activity and the arrest of a
ll those involved, added the same source.

This security operation is part of the DGSN’s intensive efforts to combat international drug trafficking, particularly the illicit trade in hard drugs and psychotropic substances from outside Morocco.

RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammed Shtayyeh met today with the Greek Consul General to Palestine Dimitris Angelopoulo in Ramallah, where he briefed him on the latest political developments, including the ongoing Israeli occupation aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

Shtayyeh, during a meeting at his office in Ramallah, briefed the Greek official on efforts made to stop the aggression against Gaza, bring in relief and medical aid and restore electricity and water there.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of having international pressure to open all crossings with the Gaza Strip to bring in more aid and provide treatment to the wounded, stressing the complete rejection of the Cyprus-proposed sea corridor to Gaza.

He reiterated the importance of the European Union’s role of working toward coming up with a peace initiative, creating a political horizon to end the occupation and finding a just solution to the Palestinian cause that includes
all the Palestinian territories in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, most importantly Jerusalem, and to advance toward the mutual recognition of the State of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations.
