GAZA: Thafar Melhem, the head of the Palestinian Energy Authority, announced today that the desalination water plant in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, will be reconnected to the electrical grid.

In a press statement, Melhem highlighted the ongoing power deficiency affecting water desalination plants in Gaza City and northern Gaza, hindering their electric generator operations. He noted that the initial financial losses in Gaza’s electricity distribution network due to the ongoing Israeli war have exceeded $500,000.

Over the past two weeks, the Energy Authority has collaborated with the Gaza Electricity Distribution Company to temporarily repair the damaged line on the Palestinian side, spanning approximately 4 kilometers.

This repair effort aims to ensure continuous electricity supply to the desalination plant in Deir al-Balah. Once operational, the plant will have the capacity to produce twenty thousand cubic meters of water per day, crucial for providing clean drinking water to residents.

The Energy Autho
rity emphasized its cooperation with international entities to pressure the occupying forces into restoring electricity on all remaining lines. This step is essential to guarantee electricity supply to citizens and vital facilities across Gaza.
