Brussels, Data from the European Union’s statistics office, Eurostat, revealed an increase in the number of migrants forced to leave EU territories as part of efforts to control illegal immigration.
The deportation rate reached 29.5% in the first quarter of this year, compared to 21.6% during the same period in 2022. The number of deportation orders issued by EU countries rose by 15%, while deportations carried out according to these orders increased by 58% during the same period.
The European Commission stated that under the new return roadmap, efforts are being made to support member states in accelerating deportations and facilitating reintegration through the frequent use of mutual recognition of return decisions, based on agreements between EU countries and migrants’ countries of origin.
