Rabat: Media personalities taking part in the 8th General Assembly of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) paid a visit to the International University Campus of the Moroccan Agency for International Cooperation (AMCI) in Rabat.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the FAAPA delegation observed the work of the Agency, which was established in 1986 to enhance the Kingdom’s international cooperation with a focus on promoting South-South cooperation, as advocated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The Agency works closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates to strengthen Morocco’s position in South-South cooperation, particularly towards African nations, as explained by AMCI’s Head of Bilateral Technical Cooperation, Amal Aaidi.
During the visit, two institutional films highlighted AMCI’s missions and achievements, including academic, technical, cultural, and artistic cooperation, as well as its involvement in international development projects. The FAAPA delegation toured the various facilities of Rabat’s International University Campus, which hosts students from different nationalities as part of cooperation agreements between Morocco and partner countries. They were informed about the services offered at the Campus, such as sports, socio-cultural, and health facilities, along with an international language center.
With a capacity of 800 beds, the Campus primarily accommodates foreign students and trainees, 85% of whom are from Sub-Saharan African countries. AMCI plays a significant role in promoting human capital by training thousands of international talents each year, a majority of whom are African students in essential disciplines for the growth of Southern countries, particularly in Africa.
This visit occurred alongside the 8th FAAPA General Assembly, themed “African Press Agencies as Vehicle for Promoting the Continent’s Health Sovereignty.” The assembly focuses on promoting African health sovereignty to tackle future challenges and marks the 10th anniversary of FAAPA’s establishment. It serves as a platform for discussions on the future role of African news agencies in the 21st century, reflecting their diversity and unique characteristics.
