Madagh: Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich, a prominent figure in Moroccan Sufism, has passed away. The deceased will be laid to rest on Sunday at the Zaouia in Madagh.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Jamal Eddine Al Qadiri Boutchich was born in 1942 in Madagh and spent his life devoted to spiritual education and promoting the values of piety and morality. He was regarded as one of the leading figures in Sufism within Morocco.
His educational journey began at the Zaouia, and he later pursued studies at Moulay Idriss High School in Fez. He continued his academic endeavors at the Faculty of Sharia before moving on to Dar Al-Hadith Al-Hassania in Rabat, where he earned a postgraduate degree in Islamic studies.
In 2001, Boutchich defended his doctoral thesis, which focused on ‘The institution of the zaouia in Morocco between authenticity and modernity,’ reflecting his deep engagement with both traditional and contemporary aspects of Islamic scholarship.
