Rabat: The “NASMAA” program of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation is a unique model that the Kingdom is committed to sharing with several countries in Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America, said Brigadier General Fouad Benariba, Head of the Cranial Surgery Unit at the Mohammed V Military Training Hospital in Rabat. This initiative underscores the dedication to addressing hearing impairments in children, covering aspects from diagnosis to medical follow-up, including hearing rehabilitation and speech therapy. The announcement was made during a visit by HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa and Rachel Ruto, First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, to Moroccan and Kenyan children who benefited from cochlear implants at the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, as part of the international program “United, We Hear Each Other Better” and the “NASMAA” national campaign.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the “NASMAA” program, initiated by HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa, aligns with the Royal Vision to provide healthcare, promote innovation, strengthen solidarity, and share Moroccan expertise with other countries. Brigadier General Benariba emphasized the significance of the international program “United, We Hear Each Other Better,” which has facilitated cochlear implants for Kenyan children and other patients in Africa. He noted the successful operation conducted by Moroccan medical staff in Nairobi in November 2025, benefiting 70 Kenyan children.

Prof. Abdelaziz Raji, head of the ENT department at the Mohammed VI University Hospital of Marrakech, highlighted the importance of sharing expertise with partners of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation’s “NASMAA” Program. This collaboration has been pivotal in enhancing the treatment of deafness in Africa, allowing for harmonized and optimized patient care. Prof. Raji reported that the program has successfully performed surgeries for over 1,050 Moroccan children and adults, and more than 391 children from 22 countries have benefited from the “United, We Hear Better” program.

Prof. Leila Skalli, Head of the ENT Department at the Specialties Hospital within the Rabat-Sal©-K©nitra Territorial Health Group, noted HRH Princess Lalla Asmaa’s personal commitment to supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals. She stressed that managing deafness requires a comprehensive approach that ensures proximity and support for patients and their families. The national “NASMAA” program is recognized as a successful model with a long-term effort that has garnered expertise at both continental and international levels.
