Leadership of HM the King Allows Morocco to Gain Stature and Power, British MP Says

Rabat: “I have been following Morocco’s progress for several years. It’s clear that the Kingdom has grown in power and international standing under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” Murrison said in an interview with MAP on the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the Sovereign’s accession to the Throne of His Glorious Ancestors. “I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to His Majesty the King for all He has accomplished for Morocco. This is also a moment to celebrate the deepening ties between Morocco and the United Kingdom,” said Murrison, a senior figure in British politics who has held several ministerial positions.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Murrison pointed out that Morocco’s international credibility, economic progress, and political stability reflect the country’s calm and determined march toward greater prosperity and development, driven by Royal vision. The Kingdom stands out as “a beacon of stability in a region too often marked by turmoil,” he added. Thanks to its significant achievements, Morocco has become “a reliable partner” with whom the United Kingdom seeks to deepen its cooperation, Murrison affirmed.

“These ties go back over 800 years,” he noted, adding that there has been a “clear intent from both sides to strengthen this relationship for mutual benefit.” Murrison stressed that both nations are entering a new era of partnership built on the strong historical ties between their Royal Families and a friendship that spans more than eight centuries. He also highlighted the excellent relationship between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Majesty King Charles III.

“As constitutional monarchies, this affinity carries special significance for both our nations. I’m confident it will help bring us even closer,” he said. Murrison also welcomed the UK’s official support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan. Through this support, the UK now aligns itself with its European and American allies, he explained, referring to the positions already expressed by major global powers, including the United States, France, and Spain.

“Morocco and the United Kingdom will thus be able to go even further” in strengthening their cooperative relations, the British politician continued. He cited the upcoming 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, as an ideal opportunity to deepen multi-sectoral collaboration between the two countries.

Regarding Morocco’s strategic role in its regional and continental context, Murrison stated that the country maintains strong ties with both Africa and Europe thanks to its ‘exceptional’ geographic position. Morocco is well-placed to seize the many opportunities Africa offers and is fully capable of playing “a regional leadership role in many respects, a role it is already assuming,” the MP noted.

“I’m confident that Morocco will continue to strengthen this position in the coming years, especially through its strong partnerships across the African continent,” he said, highlighting the importance of the Atlantic Initiative launched by HM the King, which aims to give Sahel countries access to the Atlantic Ocean. This is “a major opportunity for the entire region” of the Sahel, the former British minister concluded.
