Montpellier: The Mayor of Montpellier, Delafosse, has called on French operators to capitalize on the growing investment opportunities in Morocco. During an Economic Day event held in Montpellier, coordinated with the Kingdom’s Consulate General, Delafosse emphasized the importance of supporting the development momentum in Morocco.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Delafosse highlighted Morocco’s large-scale projects across various regions, focusing on sectors such as renewable energies, healthcare, audiovisual production, decarbonization, and transport. He views these sectors as promising for future partnerships between Montpellier and Morocco. Delafosse, who also serves as President of Montpellier M©diterran©e M©tropole, urged economic actors to embrace a win-win vision in key growth areas, reinforcing bilateral relations.
Delafosse recounted his recent visit to several Moroccan cities, noting the significant development and investment potential in Dakhla. The region has already garnered interest from many Montpellier-based operators. Vice-President of the Occitanie Region, Jalil Benabdillah, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of decentralized cooperation and territorial diplomacy in enhancing Morocco-France relations.
The increased interest among French economic actors, particularly in Montpellier, is evident with the establishment of the Morocco Occitanie Club. This initiative aims to create a favorable environment for business interactions between the two regions. The economic forum, attended by the Kingdom’s Consul General in Montpellier, Soumia Bouhamidi, included discussions on supporting industrial cooperation in strategic sectors such as cultural and creative industries, renewable energy and hydrogen, AI in healthcare, and the decarbonization of air and maritime transport.
Representatives from the Occitanie region, the city of Montpellier, Moroccan and French business leaders, and officials from institutions like the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE) participated in the event. Round tables were dedicated to exploring key partnership sectors between the French region and Morocco.
