Mexico’s Tabasco International Book Fair Chooses Morocco as Guest of Honor

Villahermosa: Morocco has been named as the guest of honor at the International Book Fair of the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco (UJAT), which opened Monday in Villahermosa, capital of the southeastern Mexican state of Tabasco.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the large-scale cultural event brings together writers, academics, and publishers from Mexico and several other countries, celebrating books, intellectual exchange, and intercultural dialogue. This year’s program features intellectual symposia, academic conferences, and literary meetings, along with a series of cultural activities highlighting the richness of the literary and cultural heritage of the participating countries.

In this context, Morocco’s participation revolves around a cultural program including lectures and intellectual encounters. The event is also marked by the presence of prominent Mexican writer Alberto Ruy Sánchez, known for his literary works inspired by the Moroccan city of Essaouira.

Morocco’s participation will
also be marked by the signing of a university cooperation agreement between UJAT and Abdelmalek EssaSdi University of Tétouan, aimed at strengthening scientific exchanges, encouraging the mobility of students and professors, and developing joint research projects between the two institutions.

On this occasion, Morocco’s ambassador to Mexico, Abdelfattah Lebbar, underlined that Morocco’s participation in this event represents an opportunity to consolidate cultural and human ties between the two countries. Lebbar noted that book fairs offer a privileged space for encounters between peoples, fostering dialogue among cultures and reinforcing the role of knowledge as a vector of rapprochement and mutual understanding.

The ambassador also stressed that Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, gives great importance to intercultural dialogue, the promotion of academic exchanges, and the strengthening of knowledge, considered essential levers for bringing peoples closer together an
d building bridges between nations. He further noted that relations between Morocco and Mexico have witnessed remarkable development over the past decades in various fields, particularly cultural and academic cooperation, as reflected by the Kingdom’s participation in this major cultural event in the state of Tabasco.

This marks Morocco’s second participation in a cultural event in the Mexican state, following the success of the Moroccan cultural week held late last January in Villahermosa, as well as in Mexico City and the city of Álamos in the state of Sonora. The initiative enabled the Mexican public to discover the richness of Morocco’s cultural and civilizational heritage.
