Moroccan Initiatives for Atlantic Africa Take Center Stage in Dakar

Dakar: Organized by the Moroccan Embassy in Senegal as part of the lead-up to Throne Day celebrations, the event brought together prominent experts, economists, and seasoned diplomats to examine the region’s strategic potential amid growing climate challenges and emerging geoeconomic divides.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, speaking at the seminar, Morocco’s Ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, underlined the strategic importance of the Atlantic fa§ade, describing it as a space where maritime, energy, human, and economic interests converge. “This zone is home to nearly 40% of Africa’s population and generates more than 55% of the continent’s GDP,” he noted, while regretting that such vast potential remains only partially harnessed.

In this context, Ambassador Naciri highlighted three flagship initiatives spearheaded by HM King Mohammed VI that now define Morocco’s commitment to an emerging Atlantic Africa. Central to this vision are the Royal Initiative to enable landlocked Sahel countries access to the Atlantic Ocean and the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project.
