Portugal Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Strategic Partnership with Morocco

Lisbon: Portugal has reiterated its dedication to enhancing its strategic partnership with Morocco, as outlined in a Joint Statement following a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and his Portuguese counterpart.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita and his Portuguese peer highlighted the robust bilateral relations that have been gaining momentum. This renewed vigor is further supported by the upcoming celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Peace and Friendship Agreement signed in 1774, and the 30th anniversary of the Friendship, Neighbourhood and Cooperation Treaty, signed in Rabat on May 30, 1994.

The ministers emphasized the importance of implementing commitments from the strategic partnership formalized during the 14th High-Level Meeting in Lisbon in May 2023. Both ministers identified economic potential and outlined strategies to strengthen cooperation in key areas, such as green hydrogen, and urged continued efforts towards establishing the electricity interconnection project and improving connectivity, including maritime links, between the two nations.

Additionally, the ministers expressed satisfaction with the joint bid by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain to host the 2030 Football World Cup, noting the event’s potential to boost shared prosperity, stimulate growth, and enhance cultural ties between their countries.

In terms of shared objectives, the officials committed to ongoing consultations and coordination within international organizations.
