Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation Participates in IPU High-Level Forum in New York

New york: A delegation from the national parliamentary division of the House of Representatives to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) took part on Tuesday in the IPU High-Level Parliamentary Forum, organized in partnership with the United Nations (UN), at the UN Headquarters in New York.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the delegation was led by the First Vice-President of the House of Representatives, Mohamed Sabbari. The Moroccan delegation highlighted the Kingdom’s model in promoting gender equality, focusing on legislative and institutional reforms to uphold women’s rights, strengthen their representation in elected councils, and combat violence against them.

The delegation also drew attention to national efforts aimed at generalizing healthcare coverage and enhancing medical services, particularly in rural areas. They discussed policies dedicated to maternal and child health, as well as improving access to reproductive health services, as stated by the House of Representatives.

The meeting addressed two main themes linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Goal 5 on gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, and Goal 3 on good health and well-being. This forum is part of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which provides an international platform for parliamentary dialogue on global development issues.

Parliamentarians from numerous countries engaged in discussions on how to expedite the achievement of these goals, highlighting the significant role of parliaments in lawmaking, overseeing public policies, and ensuring inclusivity among all population groups.

The Moroccan delegation included Ahmed Touizi, President of the Authenticity and Modernity Group; Mustapha Raddad, member of the National Rally of Independents Group; Ahmed El-Aaleme, member of the Istiqlal Group for Unity and Egalitarianism; and Khaddouj Slassi, member of the Socialist-Ittihadi Opposition Group.
