Arusha:Morocco’s Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, conducted a series of bilateral meetings in Arusha, Tanzania. These discussions took place on the sidelines of the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ould Errachid’s meetings aimed at exploring ways to enhance parliamentary cooperation and exchange experiences between legislative bodies. The meetings were attended by Morocco’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Zakaria El Goumiri, and focused on developing bilateral relations and expanding areas of cooperation.
During a meeting with Mussa Azzan Zungu, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania, Ould Errachid discussed the prospects for strengthening bilateral consultation and coordination. He emphasized King Mohammed VI’s vision of active solidarity and South-South cooperation among African countries, highlighting initiatives like the Atlantic African States Process and the African-Atlantic Gas Pipeline project. The Moroccan Sahara’s role in reinforcing connections with Africa was also noted.
The Speaker of the Tanzanian National Assembly acknowledged Morocco’s historical support for African liberation movements and highlighted the importance of these ties for fostering cooperation among African nations.
Ould Errachid also engaged with Tanzila Narbaeva, Speaker of the Senate of Uzbekistan, to discuss the potential for enhanced cooperation between Morocco and Uzbekistan. Both parties highlighted the historical and cultural ties and emphasized the need for a memorandum of cooperation for greater joint action.
In another meeting, Ould Errachid praised Morocco’s ties with Azerbaijan during discussions with Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova. Both speakers expressed a desire to strengthen relations, particularly in the economic and parliamentary fields.
The IPU General Assembly is being held under the theme “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust, and opportunities for all,” with global parliamentary representatives in attendance.
