Morocco Advocates for Peace and Ceasefire Amid Israeli-Palestinian Tensions

Rabat: Under the leadership of His Majesty the King, Morocco is committed to promoting peace and moving away from a crisis mentality regarding Israeli measures, as highlighted by the country’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, during the 164th session of the Council of the League of Arab States. Bourita emphasized the Kingdom’s dedication to fostering conditions for renewed negotiations to resolve the conflict and ensure stability in the Middle East.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita, reflecting the vision of His Majesty the King, who closely monitors developments in Palestinian territories, reiterated Morocco’s call for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations. The Foreign Minister also advocated for the opening of all crossing points to facilitate humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and enable displaced civilians to return home safely.

Bourita underscored the importance of supporting the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and safeguarding humanitarian structures under the Palestinian Authority. He called for immediate intervention to halt Israeli actions in the West Bank, particularly home demolitions and civilian displacements, and to respect Muslim and Christian holy sites per the status quo established in 1967.

As part of Morocco’s solidarity with the Palestinian people, King Mohammed VI ordered the launch of a humanitarian air bridge to Gaza, delivering nearly 300 tons of essential supplies. This assistance, routed through unprecedented channels, aimed to alleviate Palestinian suffering and support them amid the humanitarian crisis.

Bourita highlighted the King’s role as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to support Al-Quds residents politically and through the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency. This agency, under the King’s supervision, continues to implement initiatives to preserve the Holy City’s status and improve living conditions for its inhabitants.

The Foreign Minister welcomed international support for recognizing the State of Palestine, aligning with the two-state solution as a pragmatic approach to regional stability. He noted Morocco’s co-hosting of the 5th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution with the Netherlands, contributing to a high-level international conference in New York.

On the Syrian front, Bourita reiterated Morocco’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people in achieving political consensus and stability, marked by the recent reopening of Morocco’s embassy in Damascus. This move aims to strengthen bilateral relations and support Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.

Finally, Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s dedication, under the King’s leadership, to initiatives promoting Arab unity and effective action, positioning the Arab world as a regional force for security and development. The League of Arab States is seen as the appropriate mechanism to advance these goals, with hopes for its reform to enhance Arab solidarity and address member states’ aspirations.
