Morocco Emerges as a Model for Agriculture and Agro-industry, Says Senegalese Minister

Rabat: Morocco is a model to follow in the field of agriculture and agro-industry, Senegal’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Mabouba Diagne, stated on Monday in Rabat. In a press statement following talks with Morocco’s Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, Diagne praised the Kingdom’s remarkable achievements in agriculture, livestock, horticulture, and agro-industry, highlighting the full range of agricultural value chains developed by Morocco.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Diagne emphasized that Morocco has established itself as a benchmark model in these sectors, with its successful experience serving as a valuable source of cooperation and knowledge-sharing. He pointed out that Senegal imports more than USD 1.6 billion worth of food products every year, viewing this as a significant opportunity for collaboration. Diagne called on the Moroccan private sector to invest in Senegal, given the country’s ample water resources and vast arable land.

Diagne noted the ongoing efforts to build and develop national production in Senegal in partnership with the Senegalese private sector, aiming to ensure food security and contribute to the well-being of their populations. He also mentioned the presence of Moroccan banks in Senegal, capable of supporting industrial players in their projects.

On the other hand, Bouari expressed Morocco’s commitment to supporting the agricultural development of Senegal, affirming the Kingdom’s readiness to share its expertise to help advance Senegalese agriculture. He highlighted the potential for the two countries to jointly develop their agricultural sectors in a spirit of partnership and complementarity.

This interaction occurred as part of a working visit to the Kingdom, coinciding with the 15th session of the Morocco-Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission.
