Jakarta: The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Indonesia signed a strategic agreement in Jakarta on Wednesday regarding the mutual recognition of Halal certification between the Moroccan Standards Institute (IMANOR) and the Indonesian Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH).
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the agreement was signed on the Moroccan side by Redouane Houssaini, His Majesty the King’s ambassador to Jakarta, and on the Indonesian side by Ahmad Haikal Hasan, Head of the BPJPH. This agreement provides a legal and normative framework that allows Moroccan operators to comply with new Indonesian legislation, which will make Halal certification mandatory for all imported products starting in October 2026. The embassy added that the agreement is designed as the foundation of a lasting partnership intended to intensify synergies between the two countries’ economic actors.
By lifting these technical barriers, the agreement secures access for Moroccan products to the Indonesian market, promoting the growth of trade flows in line with both countries’ economic potential. During the ceremony, Houssaini emphasized that this agreement is an important lever for growth, aiming to bridge the gap between current trade volumes and the nations’ shared economic ambitions.
The agreement also represents the second landmark in a particularly fruitful diplomatic week, following the signing of a healthcare cooperation agreement between the two countries’ Ministries of Health on Tuesday in Geneva. The press release concluded that sealing these two agreements strengthens the legal framework linking the two nations, helping to leverage the multifaceted cooperation potential between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Indonesia.
