Rabat – Morocco, thanks to the progress achieved under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and its active presence in various regional and international bodies, plays a key role in strengthening South-South cooperation, particularly between Africa and Latin America, said, here Tuesday, Chairman of the Morocco-Chile Parliamentary Friendship Group, Jaime Naranjo Ortiz.
‘We see first-hand the significance advances made by Morocco in various fields, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, which position the Kingdom as a central player in Africa and in strengthening the continent’s ties with Latin America as a whole,’ Naranjo Ortiz told the press following talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
Naranjo Ortiz, leading a Chilean parliamentary delegation, described talks with Bourita as ‘extremely important’, stressing that they were focused on ways to take advantage of their respective potential thanks to their geostrategic and geographical pos
itions.
He also underlined the convergence of views of many issues, such as strengthening international peace, consolidating democracy, improving the status of women and boosting trade.
Morocco, with its Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines, and Chile, with its Pacific coastline, can play a crucial role in promoting regional cooperation, particularly between Africa and Latin America, he noted.
Regarding the national cause, the Chilean parliamentarian reaffirmed his support for Morocco’s efforts to settle the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara, stressing that “our position today is no different from that of yesterday”.
“We stand shoulder to shoulder with you in whatever is necessary to resolve this conflict” in the service of peace and stability in the region, he added.
