Morocco’s Customs Revenue Reaches Record of MAD 144.8 Bln in 2024

Rabat: Morocco’s customs revenue hit an unprecedented high of MAD 144.8 billion in 2024. This remarkable achievement is primarily attributed to a surge in value-added tax (VAT) revenue, domestic consumption tax, and import duty, as highlighted in a report by the Administration des Douanes et Imp´ts Indirects (ADII).

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, customs revenues surpassed the forecasts outlined in the 2024 Finance Bill, achieving 104.9% of the duties paid and 108.1% of the duties assessed. This indicates a significant overperformance in terms of revenue collection, reflecting the efficiency and effectiveness of the country’s customs operations.

The 2024 budgetary customs revenue structure showed a notable shift with a 1-point decrease in the share of domestic consumption tax, which accounted for 27% in 2024 compared to 26% in 2023. This decrease was counterbalanced by an increase in the share of VAT, which now makes up 62% of the revenues, and import duty, which contributes 12%. This shift underscores the growing importance of VAT in Morocco’s customs revenue framework.
