Rabat: The United States of America is recognized as a political ally and an important strategic partner of Morocco across various fields, affirmed Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, during a press briefing in Rabat on Wednesday. Bourita’s statements followed discussions with the US Deputy Secretary of State, Christopher Landau.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Moroccan-American partnership is diversified, encompassing all sectors thanks to the support of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Donald Trump. Bourita emphasized the ongoing regular political dialogue and continuous consultation between the two nations on numerous regional and international issues.
Bourita highlighted the collaborative efforts of Morocco and the United States in supporting regional and international security and stability. He pointed out the security cooperation, exemplified by the 28th edition of the “African Lion” exercises, the largest in Africa, and the series of security meetings conducted in Washington under the Joint Commissions’ framework.
On the economic front, Bourita noted a sevenfold increase in trade between the two countries since the Free Trade Agreement’s implementation, highlighting Morocco as the sole African nation linked to the US by such an agreement. In international cooperation, Morocco backs President Donald Trump’s security and development initiatives worldwide, as evidenced by its role as a founding member of the “Board of Peace.”
Additionally, Bourita announced Morocco’s participation in the recently launched “Trade Over Aid” initiative by the United States, aligning with the Royal Vision for development in Africa and globally. He further emphasized the US stance on the Moroccan Sahara issue, noting the significant impact of the December 2020 telephone conversation between King Mohammed VI and President Donald Trump on bilateral relations.
