U.S. and Morocco Expand Alliance into Space with Artemis Accords


Rabat: The United States expressed “delight” over the expansion of its alliance with Morocco into the realm of space. This development follows Morocco’s signing of the Artemis Accords, a significant step that marks the country’s commitment to international principles of responsible space exploration.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau announced this during a press conference in Rabat. The announcement came after a meeting with Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, who signed the Accords, solidifying Morocco’s participation in this global initiative.



Landau highlighted the Accords’ growth, noting that sixty-four countries worldwide have now signed, reflecting the universal appeal for responsible and peaceful space exploration. The signing underscores a mutual commitment to transparency, scientific data sharing, mutual assistance, and adherence to international law concerning space resources.



The Artemis Accords focus on protecting space assets and ensuring the sustainability of space activities. The principles aim to prevent conflicts and ensure that space exploration remains a benefit for all humanity, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation in space endeavors.
