Morocco’s Grain Harvest for 2025-2026 Farming Season Expected to Reach 90 Mln Quintals – Minister

Meknes: Forecasts indicate that Morocco’s cereal production for the 2025-2026 agricultural season is expected to reach nearly 90 million quintals (Mqx), announced Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, on Tuesday in Meknes.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the minister highlighted that the significant rainfall in Morocco has positively affected all agricultural regions, resulting in approximately 3.9 million hectares of land being planted with cereals. As a result, cereal production is anticipated to reach the projected 90 million quintals. El Bouari made these remarks during the opening of a high-level international conference held at the 18th International Agricultural Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), which continues until April 28 under the theme “Sustainability of Animal Production and Food Sovereignty.”

The minister stressed that after several years of drought, this agricultural season has seen improved rainfall and water conditions, fostering optimism and enhancing prospects for recovery in agricultural activity. He also observed that fruit trees have shown strong performance, especially olive, citrus, and date trees, reinforcing the positive trend for the season. This is expected to lead to a 15% increase in agricultural gross domestic product (GDP) compared to the previous year.

Furthermore, El Bouari noted that rainfall and snowfall have boosted reservoir levels, reaching 13 billion m³, with a fill rate of about 75.7%. The international event, focused on livestock production and the transformation of food systems, gathered numerous high-level political figures, decision-makers, leaders of international organizations, experts, researchers, and industry professionals. The event reaffirmed its status as a strategic forum for dialogue and reflection on the future of agriculture.
