Brasilia: In an interview with MAP-Brasilia as part of the celebrations of the glorious Throne Day, Brazilian Senator Gon§alves praised Morocco’s singular development momentum, which reflects ‘its ability to preserve its historical, cultural and religious heritage, while carrying out a profound economic and social transformation’, thereby providing ‘a particularly inspiring example for Latin America’.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, thanks to bold reforms, Morocco has invested in strategic sectors such as renewable energies, new technologies, the automotive industry, aeronautics, sustainable tourism, and resilient, modern agriculture. The Kingdom has relied on public-private partnerships and attracted foreign capital, establishing itself as ‘one of the most dynamic economies on the African continent’.
“Morocco is now a world reference in solar and wind energy, with emblematic projects such as the Noor complex in Ouarzazate. This testifies to a strategic vision geared towards energy security and environmental leadership, a path that Latin American countries would benefit from exploring,” Gon§alves observed.
The senator also highlighted the National Initiative for Human Development, launched in 2005, as ‘a program that promotes social inclusion, fights poverty, and supports local development’. In his view, this Moroccan approach is ‘a concrete source of inspiration’ for Latin American countries facing profound regional and social inequalities.
Highlighting Morocco’s unique geostrategic position, Gon§alves remarked that the Kingdom ‘is standing as a link between Europe, Africa, and the Americas, consolidating its economic and diplomatic weight on the international stage’.
To reinforce its role as a strategic crossroads, Morocco has invested massively in its road, rail, and airport infrastructure, such as the port of Tanger-Med, which has become one of the largest hubs in the Mediterranean region, and has signed several free-trade agreements.
‘The Kingdom has enshrined its position as a strategic partner of the European Union on issues such as migration, security, and energy, while strengthening its investments in sub-Saharan Africa and developing exchanges with Latin America,’ the senator noted.
Turning to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Gon§alves welcomed the positive developments in this topic, particularly in light of growing international support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and autonomy plan. According to him, this plan, presented by Morocco in 2007, is a ‘serious, credible and pragmatic proposal, offering a solid basis for a lasting political solution’.
Beyond diplomatic positions, the senator also welcomed the dynamic socio-economic growth of the Sahara region, thanks to the considerable investments mobilized by the Kingdom.
The resolution of the Sahara question is ‘a strategic issue’ for the entire Maghreb and Sahel region, which faces multiple security challenges such as terrorism and illicit trafficking, he added, concluding that the Moroccan autonomy plan will contribute to regional peace and international security.
