Morocco’s Prison Delegation Publishes 2024 Activity Report


Rabat: Morocco’s Prison Delegation has released its comprehensive 2024 Activity Report, emphasizing the commitment of HM King Mohammed VI to prison affairs and rehabilitation. The report outlines the dedication to implementing a Royal policy that aims to strengthen justice, promote human rights, and achieve integrated development for all segments of Moroccan society.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the report highlights King Mohammed VI’s support for the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Rehabilitation of Prisoners, which focuses on integration projects for inmate rehabilitation. The King also endorses initiatives to strengthen social integration opportunities for inmates post-release, such as the “University in Prisons” program and the ‘Moussalaha’ program, aimed at combating violent extremism and promoting rehabilitation for individuals convicted of terrorism-related offenses.



The Delegate General for Prison Administration and Rehabilitation, Mohamed Salah Tamek, noted that 2024 saw many positive developments despite challenges faced by the DGAPR. Tamek emphasized the success achieved through collective efforts to improve the penitentiary system while adhering to principles of humanity, justice, and rehabilitation, aligning with Royal Directives.



The report details improvements in living conditions in prisons, including modernized infrastructure, expansion projects, and enhanced services in nutrition, hygiene, healthcare, and medical services. Efforts have been made to promote transparency and accountability, while security measures have been strengthened to protect institutions from risks.



Tamek also highlighted initiatives to enhance the skills of prison staff, employ modern technology in prison management, and facilitate communication with the external environment. The report outlines key events and partnerships from 2024, such as the African Correctional Services Association meeting, National Day of the Inmate celebrations, and various educational and cultural programs for inmates.



Additionally, the report mentions legal advancements, including the adoption of new laws on prison management and alternative sentencing, and the inauguration of a hemodialysis unit at Bouizakarne prison. It encompasses focus areas like improving detention conditions, inclusive health services, and strategic partnerships for developing the prison system.
