Morocco’s Top Police Chief Meets Spanish, German Counterparts to Bolster Security Cooperation


Madrid: The Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, conducted a working visit to Spain from January 28-29, alongside a large Moroccan security delegation. This visit, made at the invitation of Spain’s Director General of the National Police, aimed to expand security cooperation and exchange expertise on various mutual concerns. Hammouchi also participated in tripartite meetings with his Spanish and German counterparts, according to a press release from the DGSN-DGST hub.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the visit began with a bilateral meeting between Moroccan and Spanish officials, including the Director General of Spain’s National Police and key commissioners from various departments. Discussions focused on assessing the security partnership between Morocco and Spain, particularly in combating terrorism, violent extremism, and cross-border crimes such as illegal immigration and drug trafficking. Both parties recognized the efficiency of joint operations between Moroccan and Spanish security services and highlighted the importance of consolidating this cooperation.



The visit also included thematic meetings with Moroccan and Spanish experts, focusing on strengthening advanced collaboration in combating terrorist threats and curbing recruitment for terrorist organizations. Discussions extended to improving cooperation in criminal investigations, judicial police work, and tackling crimes impacting national borders, including human trafficking and cybercrime.



Furthermore, both countries agreed to expand cooperative efforts, including supervised drug delivery operations and creating joint security teams. They also considered establishing a security committee to address challenges related to co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup. The meetings examined ways to enhance technical assistance, police training, and the role of liaison officers to streamline cooperation.



In a broader context, Hammouchi participated in a tripartite meeting with his Spanish and German counterparts. The meeting explored expanding trilateral cooperation in technical assistance and operational security, with a focus on terrorism and cross-border crimes such as human trafficking and money laundering. The delegates discussed securing major sporting events, particularly in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.



The three countries expressed a shared commitment to enhancing joint efforts in various security areas to counter regional and international threats effectively.
