Rabat: Backed by the Government of Denmark, UNDP’s Regional Bureau for Arab States, and its Nordic Representation Office, the GGJAP aims to support 200 Moroccan green SMEs by 2027. The program targets the creation of at least 1,000 direct jobs and 2,500 indirect ones in sectors tied to sustainability and climate resilience.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Accelerator is not just a funding mechanism but a transformation platform. UNDP Resident Representative Ilaria Carnevali emphasized that the initiative is about building an ecosystem where profitability, sustainability, and decent employment coexist. Carnevali described the event as a ‘bridge between green innovators and capital,’ serving as a stepping stone toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by supporting startups and SMEs that deliver climate-smart solutions.
The 21 companies showcased this week are part of the program’s latest cohort, selected for their innovation and growth potential in the green economy. Morocco has increased its support for SMEs under its newly adopted investment charter, which prioritizes Very Small, Small, and Medium Enterprises (VSMEs) as levers of inclusive and sustainable growth.
Abdelmajid Nadiri, a senior official at the Ministry of Investment, highlighted that the government’s recent adoption of a support decree marks a ‘structural shift’ in public policy supporting domestic entrepreneurship. Nadiri noted that these SMEs are embedded in the local economy, driving innovation and building climate resilience from the ground up. Initiatives like the GGJAP are helping forge a green entrepreneurial ecosystem that can channel both impact and investment.
