Rabat: Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councillors Mohamed Ould Errachid met on Monday in Rabat with Pedro Haces Barba, the Coordinator of Political Affairs of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies and Secretary General of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM), who is currently on a working visit to the Kingdom. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss ways of strengthening cooperation between Morocco and Mexico, particularly at the parliamentary, economic, and social levels, in light of the positive momentum generated in bilateral relations.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ould Errachid emphasized that Morocco’s foreign policy, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, is focused on enhancing South-South cooperation and collaborating with strategic partners in Latin America, led by Mexico. This strategy aims to serve shared interests and support sustainable development. He recalled the significant impact of His Majesty the King’s historic visit to Mexico in 2004, which marked a pivotal moment in the bilateral relationship.
Ould Errachid highlighted the importance of Haces Barba’s visit, noting its significance in parliamentary and trade union contexts, which could lead to enhanced cooperation in socio-economic and labor sectors and facilitate the exchange of expertise and best practices. He also emphasized the need for developing cooperation between Morocco’s House of Councillors and the Mexican legislative body, through dialogue, mutual visits, and coordination within regional and international parliamentary forums.
The Mexican official, Haces Barba, acknowledged the friendly ties between Morocco and Mexico and their mutual desire to strengthen these bonds. He discussed the composition of the Mexican Parliament and its role in supporting recent reforms aimed at enhancing democratic governance and legislative action.
Haces Barba also noted the positive trajectory of Morocco-Mexico relations, attributing this to the efforts of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President of the Republic of Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum. He stressed the importance of boosting economic and trade exchanges between the two nations.
The talks underscored the strategic geographical positions of Morocco and Mexico, highlighting their potential as promising platforms for investment and trade.
