OAPAM Participates in African Conference on Education for the Visually Impaired


Johannesburg:The Alaouite Organization for the Protection of the Blind in Morocco (OAPAM) is taking part in the 2nd African Conference of the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI Africa). The event is being held in Johannesburg from September 28 to October 2, focusing on the theme “Towards 2030: Actualising Inclusion, Innovation and Impact in Education of Persons With Visual Impairment.”

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, OAPAM is represented by its Secretary-General Salaheddine Semmar and Director of its teaching institutes and training centers, Abderrazak Boughenbour. The organization is engaging in discussions on various topics, including inclusive education, training, assistive technologies, artificial intelligence, accessible educational resources, early intervention, and cooperation among relevant sectors.

The conference also underscores the importance of implementing and expanding the ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty, which aims to facilitate cross-bor
der access to books and educational materials in accessible formats.

OAPAM’s participation under the presidency of Princess Lalla Lamia Essolh provides an opportunity to highlight Morocco’s experience in the education and training of blind and visually impaired individuals. It also serves as a platform to exchange expertise and strengthen international cooperation towards achieving greater inclusion and autonomy for the visually impaired.
