Palestinian Journalist Syndicate warns of Israel’s decision to shut down media outlets under pretext of ‘security’

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate warned today of the danger of the Israeli occupation government’s approval of a decision to close every media outlet under the pretext of ‘security.’

In a statement, the syndicate described the decision as a new crime against journalism in Palestine, by ‘encapsulating’ the procedures for closing media institutions and targeting them with legislation and decisions from political levels to justify the Israeli army’s missiles, bullets and bombs.

It stressed that this step targets telling the truth, creates a state of intimidation for Arab, foreign, and local channels operating in Palestine, and puts a knife at the throat of the press through vague provisions under the pretext of ‘security’.

The syndicate accused Israel of historically adapting all its repressive laws under the security pretext.

The syndicate also called on the Arab, regional, and international federations to intervene and take a stance against this crime, which is expected to target freedom of opinion and expression, and to block the image and voice of the truth.

According to the syndicate, the Israeli occupation forces killed 16 male and female journalists and injured dozens of others since the start of the aggression against Gaza on October 7, while others have gone missing. It added that about 20 journalists were arrested, and more than 50 media institutions were targeted with Israeli missiles, some of them were completely destroyed.
