Peaceful Protest Right Doesn’t Relieve Authorities of Duty to Intervene When Needed – Interior Ministry Spokesperson

Rabat: In a statement to the press on Thursday, El Khalfi emphasized the Ministry of the Interior’s commitment to guaranteeing the exercise of rights and freedoms in accordance with the legal provisions in force, including the right to peaceful protest, affirming nonetheless that the ministry will not hesitate to take all legal measures against anyone who attempts to resort to violence, vandalism, incitement, and other unacceptable criminal behavior.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, El Khalfi stated that while the authorities are committed to fulfilling their duty to protect the safety and security of citizens, it is also imperative for citizens to respect the provisions of the law in all their actions. They must honor the freedom of others and comply with the authority of the State, which remains the principal guarantor of all freedoms.

El Khalfi further explained that the logic of freedom and rights must also be aligned with the principles of commitment and duty. Both these elements, he noted, contribute to fostering positive citizenship that serves the interests of everyone, without exception.
