Rabat:The National Council of the Popular Movement (MP) has authorized the party’s Secretary-General, Mohamed Ouzzine, to continue political consultations and make a decision about the party’s role in the upcoming government.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this mandate was issued in a communiqué following an extraordinary session of the National Council. The decision emphasizes the importance of the nation’s supreme interest and service to citizens, while considering the party’s principles, responsibilities, and political commitments.
The communiqué highlighted that the party’s political positioning should allow the Popular Movement to play an active and influential role within institutions. This involves defending citizens’ concerns, contributing to public policy formulation, and translating the party’s commitments to voters into tangible actions and programs.
Despite experiencing a decline in some traditional electoral strongholds, the National Council noted that the party has maintained a sign
ificant presence on the national electoral stage. This result is seen as a reflection of its continued political presence and institutional foundation.
Adil Sebbaï, President of the party’s National Council, stated that the meeting was focused on evaluating the September 23 legislative elections and the political phase initiated by consultations following the appointment of the new Head of Government. In-depth discussions led to the decision to task the Secretary-General with overseeing consultations and political negotiations.
Mohamed Ouzzine remarked that the decision resulted from a “sincere, responsible and constructive” debate within the party’s parliamentary body, acknowledging the Popular Movement’s electoral and political influence. He described the session as “exceptional,” in terms of participation, mobilization, and the strategic positions outlined for guiding the party’s future direction.
