Road Accidents Claim 21 Lives in Morocco’s Urban Areas Over Past Week


Rabat: Twenty-one people were killed and 2,710 injured, 100 of them seriously, in the 2,031 road accidents that occurred in urban areas on January 13-19, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, these accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding, and failure to maintain a safe distance, as noted by DGSN in a press release.



Regarding the control and enforcement of traffic violations, the security services issued 54,916 tickets. They submitted 10,131 reports to the public prosecutor’s office and collected 44,785 transactional fines totaling MAD 9.9 million.



The DGSN also reported actions including the impoundment of 5,731 vehicles, the withdrawal of 10,131 driving licenses, and the immobilization of 441 vehicles.
