Rabat: Road accidents in Morocco’s urban areas have resulted in the deaths of 32 individuals over the past week. These incidents have been primarily attributed to a range of factors including drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding, pedestrians’ inadvertence, and several other traffic violations.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, these accidents were caused by the failure to keep a safe distance, loss of vehicle control, changing direction without signaling, unauthorized changes of direction, failure to respect stop signs, driving in the wrong direction, driving in the left lane, failure to obey red lights, drunk driving, and improper passing. The Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) highlighted these causes in a press release.
In an effort to control and penalize traffic offenses, security services have issued 39,606 tickets and filed 6,472 reports with the public prosecutor’s office. Additionally, 33,134 fines have been paid, totaling MAD 7.265 million. Further enforcement actions included the impoundment of 3,826 vehicles, the withdrawal of 6,468 documents, and the immobilization of 303 vehicles, as noted by the same source.
