Rabat: During a joint plenary session of the two Houses, the parliamentarians emphasized that the Royal Vision, based on clarity, effectiveness, and continuous action on the ground, has enabled Morocco to achieve unprecedented diplomatic gains, which have been crowned by increasing recognition of the legitimacy of the Autonomy Plan under Moroccan sovereignty and a strengthening of international support for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the parliamentarians stressed that His Majesty the King “has been leading Moroccan diplomacy with wisdom and firmness, courage and determination since His accession to the Throne,” maintaining that “the latest Security Council resolution marks a break with the previous ones, as it constitutes the culmination of a cumulative diplomatic process following an exemplary Royal approach.”
The parliamentarians noted that this resolution consecrates Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara within the framework of the Autonomy Plan, which constitutes a major evolution in the process of resolving this artificial conflict, ensuring that “in a context marked by conflicts, the Kingdom has constantly chosen the path of wisdom, prioritizing peace, dialogue, and a thoughtful diplomatic approach.”
They noted that the historic speech delivered by His Majesty the King last Friday constitutes a clear roadmap for the future, aiming to make the Moroccan Sahara a pioneering pole of development and an economic hub open to its regional environment, including the Sahel and Sahara region, noting that Resolution 2797 “offers a historic opportunity to achieve a consensus where there is neither a winner nor a loser.”
At the beginning of this joint session of the two Houses, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, affirmed that the UN’s consecration of the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the framework and basis for negotiations marks a historic turning point and also reflects the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI in managing this file internationally.
He indicated that the adoption of this resolution is not limited to recognizing Morocco’s historical rights and sovereignty over its Southern Provinces, but also represents a mark of confidence from the international community in the political, economic, social, and institutional model of the Kingdom.
Talbi Alami accordingly called for intensifying efforts on the front of parliamentary diplomacy, drawing inspiration from the spirit and philosophy of the Royal Speech delivered after the adoption of Resolution 2797.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, recalled that this resolution “is the fruit of fifty years of struggle and continuous diplomatic and political action in defense of the sovereignty and territorial unity of the Kingdom.”
He explained that “throughout this patriotic journey, Morocco, under the leadership of a wise Monarchy, has advanced with confidence and serenity, according to a clear vision, to demonstrate that the Southern Provinces are, more than mere geography, the soul of a nation borne by allegiance, nourished by memory, and preserved by the generations.”
Ould Errachid stressed that Resolution 2797 reflects the growing conviction of the international community that the solution to the Moroccan Sahara can only be conceived within the framework of full national sovereignty, through the Autonomy Initiative proposed by Morocco in 2007, which has become, thanks to the enlightened leadership of His Majesty the King, a solid political reality, a recognized UN reference, and a lever for regional peace and stability.
He concluded that Morocco “is at the dawn of a new stage in the process of its national cause, where the page of management gives way to that of change, in the continuity of an anchored diplomacy, based on the clairvoyant vision of His Majesty the King, since the historic speech of November 1999 on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the Green March.”
