SIU to organise workshop on international human rights procedures, mechanisms

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) will organise a workshop on international human rights procedures and mechanisms, under the patronage of the Attorney General, Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain, on October 2-3.

The workshop will be held in cooperation with the Human Rights Affairs Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United Nations Development Programme, and the UN Human Rights Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa.

Mohammed Khalid Al-Hazza, Acting Advocate General and SIU Chief, said that the workshop aims to highlight the special procedures followed by international mechanisms in following up on human rights, the national obligations towards them, and the conditions for accepting reports and the procedures for classifying them.

It will also study the requirements for preparing reports and responding to international inquiries, as well as shed light on the best practices in this regard, he said.

A number of international specialists and experts, in addition to the representatives of relevant national agencies and entities, are expected to participate in the workshop.
