Washington, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the UN’s chief humanitarian coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag, to discuss the necessity of ensuring increased and sustained humanitarian aid to the region and addressing the obstacles hindering it.

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that Blinken and Kaag discussed the ongoing efforts to tackle the security challenges that have impeded aid delivery within Gaza during their meeting in Washington on Thursday.

Blinken emphasised the need for effective protection of humanitarian workers and underscored the importance of reaching a ceasefire agreement that would secure the release of hostages and help alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza.

The US Secretary of State also expressed his continued confidence in Coordinator Kaag and reaffirmed the strong support of the United States for her mandate.
