Sidi kacem: Local authorities in Sidi Kacem, along with teams from the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), carried out on Sunday an operation to route humanitarian aid to the inhabitants and breeders of the rural commune of Al Haouafate, in the northwestern part of the country near the Sebou River.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the operation aims to alleviate the impacts of recent severe weather and rising water levels that have affected several areas of the province. It helped provide 32 tonnes of barley and 400 food kits from Sidi Kacem province, to preserve livestock, which forms the economic backbone of these rural areas.
Alongside agricultural assistance, local authorities are paying special attention to families cut off in El Haouafate, who received 400 food kits to help ensure food security.
In addition to the rescue operation, the Regional Office for Agricultural Development of the Gharb region rolled out a large-scale operation to distribute livestock feed in the commune, delivering 32 tonnes of free barley, according to the office head.
The emergency aid targets breeders whose villages were cut off by rising waters or whose livestock was displaced to safer areas, he added, noting that the operation will continue to cover all affected zones and isolated villages in the Gharb region.
Ahmed, a farmer and breeder in the region, said the assistance came just in time, as it had become nearly impossible for livestock to access markets or pastures due to rising water levels. “The free barley we received will help feed our livestock and limit losses,” he said, praising the authorities’ efforts and swift intervention.
