Ecuador and Morocco Aim to Strengthen Economic Relations: Ecuadorian FM


Rabat: Ecuador and Morocco are determined to enhance their economic ties, as articulated by Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Sommerfeld during a joint press briefing with Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Sommerfeld emphasized the mutual ambition of both countries to boost trade and investment. The ultimate goal is to sign a trade agreement that would fully unleash the economic potential of both nations. She highlighted the importance of diversifying exports and encouraged greater involvement from the private sector to tap into the unexploited potential of both economies.



In line with these objectives, Sommerfeld mentioned the possibility of establishing a commission to implement this shared vision and further enhance bilateral economic cooperation. She praised the robust dialogue between Rabat and Quito, which has resulted in a strategic partnership roadmap.



Sommerfeld also noted that Ecuador and Morocco, sharing common values, have agreed to pursue joint initiatives and projects in areas such as security, intelligence, counterterrorism, drug trafficking, and advanced technologies. On the international stage, both nations have reaffirmed their commitment to promoting global peace, security, and development.



Regarding the Moroccan Sahara issue, Sommerfeld reiterated Ecuador’s support for the Autonomy Initiative as the foundation to resolve the regional dispute. She expressed backing for Morocco’s efforts to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, lasting, and mutually acceptable political solution under the guidance of the United Nations.
