Rabat – Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, held talks, on Monday in Rabat, with Austrian Minister of Labor and the Economy, Martin Kocher, on ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy transition.

This meeting between Benali and Kocher, on a working visit to Morocco leading a large delegation, is part of the strengthening of cooperation relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Austria which are experiencing strong dynamics, driven by the desire of both parties to consolidate bilateral cooperation, in harmony with the historical depth of the ties that unite them and the particular concern of HM King Mohammed VI and the Austrian president, Alexander Van Der Bellen.

In a statement to the press, Benali said that the meeting with this important Austrian delegation was an opportunity to discuss partnership projects between the two countries, particularly in the fields of energy transition, sustainable development, r
enewable energies and green hydrogen.

The Minister also emphasized that both parties aspire to capitalize on the momentum in bilateral relations to explore more avenues for fruitful cooperation and attract more investment in promising sectors, including renewable energies and green hydrogen.

For his part, the Austrian Minister highlighted the “long-standing” relations between Morocco and Austria, which have intensified further with numerous visits by both parties over the past two years, noting that Austria aspires to move forward in consolidating these ties, through the exchange of experience and increasing the volume of investments in areas of common interest.

Kocher also pointed out that Morocco has excellent conditions for producing solar and wind energy, adding that Austria attaches particular importance to renewable energies, which represents a great opportunity for the two countries to exchange experiences.

Cooperation between the two countries has been marked in recent years by growth in trade and
Austrian investment in Morocco.

The two countries enjoy fruitful industrial cooperation, notably in the automotive sector, and are keen to extend this cooperation to other areas, with particular emphasis on encouraging exchanges between the two countries’ economic players and developing joint projects, notably in the fields of green hydrogen, biogas, the circular economy and energy efficiency.
