Former Argentine President Highlights Morocco as Key Hub for Africa-Latin America Dialogue

Rabat: Former Argentine President Eduardo Duhalde emphasized Morocco’s pivotal role as a crossroads for dialogue between Africa and Latin America during a panel discussion at the 14th annual international conference “The Atlantic Dialogues.” Organized by the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), the event focused on “Latin America in the Face of Global Change.” Duhalde highlighted Morocco’s unique position as a gateway to major global economic hubs, noting its cultural values and coexistence.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Duhalde praised events like “The Atlantic Dialogues” for illustrating Morocco’s approach to fostering South-South dialogue by bridging the Atlantic’s two shores. He noted that integration between Africa and Latin America has already led to fruitful economic cooperation, particularly in the area of enhanced air connectivity. Duhalde stressed the importance of direct exchanges and partnerships to bolster economic complementarity between the two regions.

Former Ecuadorian President Jamil Mahuad also addressed the panel, acknowledging Morocco’s strategic position amid rapid global changes. Mahuad highlighted the necessity of developing new mechanisms for South-South cooperation, particularly to address the challenges of structuring trade flows in a delicate global economic climate. He emphasized the value of dialogue forums like this annual conference in building bridges and expanding opportunities for regional exchange.

The panel discussion explored Latin America’s repositioning in a changing global context, considering supply chain reconfiguration, strategic resource valorization, and climate challenges. Discussions also addressed persistent vulnerabilities related to migration and governance. The conference, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI from December 11-13, continues to build on its multidisciplinary platform to analyze ongoing crises and propose reform pathways aligned with contemporary realities.
