Rabat: In a recent press briefing, Interior Ministry Spokesperson El Khalfi addressed concerns regarding law enforcement interventions. He emphasized that such actions are strictly governed by the Constitution and relevant legal frameworks, ensuring their legitimacy.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, El Khalfi outlined that these frameworks include laws on public gatherings and legislative texts defining the missions of law enforcement. Additionally, globally recognized security and human rights protocols are adhered to, focusing on safeguarding the physical integrity of individuals and protecting both public and private property.
El Khalfi highlighted that the objectives of law enforcement interventions are to maintain public order, protect individual and property rights, ensure the exercise of rights and freedoms within legal boundaries, and bolster trust in institutions. He noted that interventions are based on principles of gradualness and moderation, with force applied only as a last resort after all peaceful means have been exhausted.
The spokesperson further explained that interventions are conducted proportionately, employing appropriate and limited measures without resorting to excessive force. Pre-intervention measures include legal warnings and alerts to prevent confrontations.
Concluding his remarks, El Khalfi reiterated that law enforcement interventions are a last resort, employed only after all other means have failed to address a minority of instigators and troublemakers.
