Moroccan Senator Highlights Good Governance Reforms at IPU Assembly


Arusha:The Speaker of the House of Councillors, Mohamed Ould Errachid, emphasized significant governance reforms undertaken by Morocco at the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tanzania.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ould Errachid highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to strengthen trust between citizens and institutions, guided by King Mohammed VI’s leadership. The 2011 Constitution played a pivotal role in enshrining principles of good governance, participatory democracy, and equal opportunity.



He noted Parliament’s role in these reforms, citing the establishment of the National Child Protection Agency and systems empowering women, youth, and individuals with disabilities. The legislative framework also aims to enhance political inclusivity, with designated seats for women in Parliament and incentives for youth participation.



Ould Errachid pointed out the historic appointment of a female Head of Government as a significant step for women’s leadership in Morocco. He underscored the importance of citizen empowerment and advanced regionalization, with regional development programs addressing disparities and promoting growth.



The speaker highlighted initiatives in the Moroccan Sahara, emphasizing local development and high voter turnout in recent elections. As the IPU seeks a new president, Ould Errachid expressed Morocco’s commitment to supporting the Union’s role in fostering peace and development through parliamentary collaboration.
