Marrakech: Morocco and Ethiopia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at combating various forms of violent and organized crime. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 93rd session of the General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO-INTERPOL), held in Marrakech from November 24 to 27, 2025.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the MoU establishes a framework for cooperation between the two countries in the security sector. It promotes the exchange of expertise, experience, information, and technical assistance to ensure a deep understanding and effective fight against organized crime that could threaten the security of both nations.
The MoU includes provisions for Morocco’s national security services to offer training, technical assistance, and intelligence support to their Ethiopian counterparts. This aims to help develop human resources and strengthen capabilities in crime prevention and control.
The agreement specifically addresses issues such as human trafficking, illegal immigration, trafficking in human organs, narcotics, psychotropic substances, chemical precursors, and illicit arms trafficking. It also covers cybercrime, financial and economic crime, money laundering, and other areas of mutual interest.
Following the signing, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance and the Commissioner General of the Ethiopian Federal Police engaged in discussions to review the achievements of bilateral security cooperation. They explored further promotion of this partnership to consolidate and strengthen shared security.
