Rabat: Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita met Monday in Rabat with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Communities of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau Fatumata Jau, who is on a working visit to Morocco, as part of the ongoing political dialogue and the shared commitment to enshrine and bolster bonds of brotherhood and friendship between the two countries.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the two ministers reviewed the progress of bilateral cooperation, described as very positive in various fields. They also discussed the possibility of turning the partnership between the two countries into a model of intra-African cooperation, based on values of solidarity, exchange, and sharing. This collaboration aligns with the significant momentum resulting from the visit to Guinea-Bissau by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in June 2015, which helped establish the framework for strategic cooperation through implementing bilateral agreements in various fields and strengthening cooperation mechanisms.
The ministers agreed to focus on further promoting cooperation in key sectors such as vocational training, health, telecommunications, agriculture and marine fisheries, tourism, port management and operations, mining, finance, and institutional capacity building. They emphasized the importance of continued implementation of agreements signed during the 4th Joint Cooperation Commission, held on July 16, 2024, in Laayoune.
Additionally, Bourita and his Guinea-Bissauan counterpart announced plans to organize a week-long event to promote Guinea-Bissau’s economy in Morocco this coming September. This initiative aims to enhance Moroccan investment in sectors targeted by Guinea-Bissau, while also highlighting the significance of establishing the Moroccan-Guinea-Bissau Business Council to foster the development of trade between the two nations.
