Rabat: The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Senegal have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a regular dialogue aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. This decision was made during the 15th Morocco-Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission held in Rabat, co-chaired by Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. The commission focused on further developing cooperation, consulting on regional and international issues, and ensuring that commitments made by both countries are consistently monitored.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Joint Communiqu© adopted at the end of the session highlighted the fraternal and understanding atmosphere that marked the commission’s work. This environment facilitated a comprehensive review of the existing bilateral cooperation and helped identify new opportunities for strengthening ties. The economic and trade sectors were particularly emphasized, with both parties recognizing the vital role played by Moroccan and Senegalese private sectors in promoting bilateral trade and investment.
Both countries invited their respective private sectors to actively contribute to enhancing economic exchanges and partnerships. They also called on the Economic Impulse Group to meet and provide new momentum to bilateral cooperation in mutually beneficial areas. In terms of infrastructure, both countries acknowledged the significant projects underway and agreed to promote synergies, particularly between the port facilities in Morocco and Senegal.
In the industrial sector, Morocco and Senegal agreed to encourage investment and develop industrial partnerships by integrating their value chains. They also addressed the mining, energy, and hydrocarbon sectors, acknowledging the progress of the Atlantic Africa Gas Pipeline project and emphasizing Senegal’s key role in its initial phase. The two nations also committed to strengthening their partnership in renewable energies and industrial capacities.
Higher education, research, and innovation also featured prominently in the discussions, with both countries welcoming the dynamism of their cooperation and agreeing to diversify this collaboration. Consular relations were also addressed, with both parties committing to facilitate the socio-economic integration of their nationals and agreeing to hold the first meeting of the bilateral joint consular commission in Morocco in 2026.
In sports, Morocco and Senegal agreed to continue their partnership in preparation for the Youth Olympics in Dakar in 2026. They also committed to supporting each other’s candidacies at regional and international levels. Furthermore, both nations recognized the potential for cooperation within the Atlantic African States Process, aiming to make it a region of co-emergence and shared development.
Morocco and Senegal also expressed their willingness to cooperate in tourism, agriculture, ICT, security, and other areas, underlining a spirit of mutual benefit. The session concluded with the signing of 17 legal instruments and the Senegal-Morocco Economic Forum, which facilitated discussions on investment opportunities.
The Joint Communiqu© concluded with both parties agreeing to host the 16th Morocco-Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission in Dakar, with the date to be determined through diplomatic channels.
