Marrakech: Members of the National Security Service at Marrakech-Menara Airport arrested on Tuesday, a French national suspected of involvement in a case of forgery and use of forged documents, as well as international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the 32-year-old suspect was arrested in flagrante delicto for possession and use of a forged passport. A security source revealed that technical investigations carried out on his cell phone uncovered digital traces suggesting his involvement in criminal activity related to international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.
A check of the suspect’s details against the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) database indicated that he was the subject of an international arrest warrant. This was pursuant to a red notice issued at the request of the National Central Bureau in Paris, aiming to enforce a court ruling against him for his alleged involvement in a case of kidnapping and false imprisonment with violence, in connection to a settling of scores between drug trafficking networks, the same source added.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is being held at the disposal of the judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. This aims to clarify all the circumstances of the case and determine all the criminal acts he is charged with.
Additionally, the Interpol National Central Bureau in Rabat, under the Directorate General of National Security, was tasked with notifying its counterpart in France of this arrest to facilitate the extradition process.
This arrest underscores the Moroccan security services’ commitment to implementing international security cooperation mechanisms, especially in tracking down and arresting individuals wanted internationally for cross-border crimes.
