Morocco, Jordan Sign Two Agreements on Judicial & Legal Cooperation


Amman: The two agreements, signed by the Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, and his Jordanian counterpart, Bassam Al-Talhouni, focus on mutual judicial and legal assistance in criminal matters, as well as the transfer of persons sentenced to custodial penalties.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the agreements, signed in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Jordan, Fouad Akhrif, and the Director of Criminal Affairs, Pardons and Crime Monitoring at the Ministry of Justice, Hicham Mellati, aim to open new prospects for the exchange of judicial and legal expertise and information. They support efforts by both countries to consolidate the rule of law and combat cross-border crime.



The agreements will strengthen joint efforts to fight crime and develop mechanisms for judicial cooperation. This includes facilitating investigation procedures, information exchange, and the enforcement of judgments. They also organize the surrender of wanted persons in accordance with the national laws of both countries and relevant international regulations, with the goal of promoting justice and enhancing community security.



During the signing ceremony, Ouahbi praised the fraternal and historic ties uniting Morocco and Jordan, emphasizing that the signing reflects the determination of both countries to embody the spirit of partnership. This partnership aims to strengthen legal and judicial ties and exchange expertise and know-how in this field.



The Jordanian minister described the bilateral relations as historic and solid, highlighting their deepening over the decades in various areas. He noted that the visit of the Moroccan delegation is part of efforts to strengthen this bilateral partnership.



He added that the signing marks an important step in judicial cooperation between the two countries, reflecting their political and legal will to build effective and lasting partnerships.



Ambassador Akhrif hailed the strong historical and political ties between Morocco and Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and King Abdullah II. He noted that the agreements support the growing momentum of bilateral cooperation and strengthen prospects for a solid partnership in the judicial and legal fields.
