Rabat: Morocco has ushered in a new phase of tourism development, driven by a long-term strategic vision under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, said on Tuesday in Rabat. Speaking at the opening of the GBB Investment Summit Morocco, Ammor underlined that the Royal vision has established tourism as a driver of growth, job creation, and international prominence.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the vision sets a clear target of reaching 26 million tourists by 2030 and placing the Kingdom among the world’s top tourism destinations, she pointed out. Ammor stressed that, in a highly favorable international environment, positive conditions do not automatically translate into results, explaining that what sets top-performing destinations apart is, above all, their level of preparedness, foresight, and structured offerings.
In this regard, she recalled that the 2023-2026 Tourism Roadmap introduced a major strategic shift: structuring the national tourism offering around visitor experiences rather than destinations alone. This approach is now yielding tangible results across the Kingdom’s various regions, she said. Ammor also noted that the growth of the tourism sector depends as much on the dynamism of demand as on the supply side’s capacity to keep pace, adding that expanding accommodation capacity remains a critical challenge to support the influx of international tourists.
The minister noted that Morocco has increased its accommodation capacity by more than 45,000 beds in recent years, thanks in particular to a competitive investment framework. She also recalled the launch of the “Cap Hospitality” program, designed to support the renovation of over 14,000 hotel rooms through State-backed financing mechanisms. Regarding the business environment, Ammor said that investment is primarily driven by confidence and visibility, highlighting the implementation of Law 80-14, which aims to boost transparency, enhance clarity for investors, and raise standards across the entire tourist accommodation ecosystem.
Furthermore, she welcomed the growing interest Morocco continues to attract from international investors, noting that the Kingdom offers a rare combination of advantages built on solid fundamentals, political stability, a credible long-term vision, and a market that is still expanding. The minister also pointed to the emergence of a new generation of projects across the Kingdom in the luxury, experiential tourism, lifestyle, and alternative accommodation segments. She reaffirmed that the target of 26 million tourists by 2030 is “a commitment” that will be achieved by strengthening partnerships with both domestic and international investors.
The GBB Investment Summit Morocco brings together investors, developers, operators, and partners from the real estate, hospitality, and tourism sectors amid the sustained growth momentum of Morocco’s tourism landscape.
