Rabat: Intangible Cultural Heritage: Morocco’s Caftan Nomination to Be Examined in December – UNESCO.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage will consider this nomination during its 20th ordinary session, to be held from 8 to 13 December in New Delhi, India.

The Moroccan nomination, presented under the title “Moroccan Caftan: Art, Traditions, and Know-How,” concerns the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, which “recognizes and promotes the diversity of cultural practices and skills upheld by communities.”

In its richly documented nomination file, the Caftan is described as “a traditional Moroccan garment rooted in a long history of clothing traditions that have continuously evolved from the medieval era to the present day.”

During its upcoming session, the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee will examine 54 nominations for inscription on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, including six extension requests for elements previously inscribed, aiming to include additional countries or other communities within the same country.
